Those who require assistance for wheelchair access are encouraged to visit the “Precincts Section Main Office” (see map below for location) or ask any precinct staff for assistance.

Please note: The Information Center is now closed, as of March 31, 2026. All services have been transfered to the Precinct Section, Main Office. 

Wheelchair Access to Main Sanctuary, Foundress Sanctuary, and Memorial Hall

--Elevators--

Elevators to access the main sanctuary are located to the east and west of the sanctuary.

Wheelchairs for indoor use (free to use) are located next to the elevators. You are asked to leave your outdoor wheelchairs behind, near the elevators, while using the indoor wheelchairs. 

Operating Hours: 90 minutes before morning service to Closing of Inner Courtyard*

*Closing of Inner Closeyard takes place after the evening service; however, the time varies and there is no predetermined time frame. 

--Ramp Entrance--

Ramp entrance is open on the following days and hours.

Dates: 25th and 26 of each month, Sundays, holidays, and days of Church Headquarters events. 

Hours: 9:30 AM to 4 PM

In addition, for the 26th of each month and for April 18, the ramp entrance is open 90 minutes prior to the beginning of the service. For New Year’s Service and Spring and Autumn Memorial Services, the ramp entrance is open 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the service.

During the Children’s Pilgrimage, the ramp entrance is open from 7:30 AM.

During the Osechi, the ramp entrance is open from 9 AM.

For hours when the ramp entrance is closed, we ask that visitors utilize the elevators.

Accessible Bathrooms

Key Tip! When asking a Japanese person for a bathroom, ask for a "toilet." In Japanese, "bathroom" is a room with a bathtub.

--Near Main Sanctuary--

Along the corridor, there is an accessible bathroom located in the Foundress' Hall 3 (near Memorial Hall). Hours: 90 minutes before morning service - 30 minutes before closing the Inner Courtyard. 

On the ground level, accessible bathrooms are located in the vicinity of the elevator and in Precincts Office West Station. 

Accessible bathrooms are also located within the ramp entrance building (see above for hours). 

--Inside Oyasato Yakata Area--   (see map below)

The accessible bathroom located next to Dining Hall 1 is open 24 hours a day.

Other bathrooms (Tea Service Center, East Lecture Hall, inside Yakata buildings) are open from roughly 9 AM to 3:30 PM (please note that time varies). 

An accessible bathroom located alongside Tenri Main Street (Hondori, Google map link) is open during the hours of 6 AM to 6 PM during the summer and 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM during the winter. 

--Around the City of Tenri--

An accessible bathroom is available for public use in the Social Welfares Section office building, located 140 yards east of Tenri Station (Google map link). It is open on weekdays between 9 AM to 4:30 PM (during the time when the Kagura Service is being performed, the office will be closed; for the remainder of the day, the office will be open, regardless of the day of the week).

There are also accessible bathrooms located on the northern and southern ends of Tenri Station Plaza. 

Accessible bathrooms located inside Church Headquarters parking lots and the Bus Loading Area are generally open only on the 25th and 26 of each month, as well as April 17 and 18. 

 

 

Parking Lots

--Reserved Parking Lot for the Disabled--

Hours: 8:30 AM to 4 PM

(for October 26, the lot opens at 7:30 AM)

The West Underground Entrance (see map above) allows for easy access from this parking lot to the West Elevator. Open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM. 

On days of the monthly service, additional lots are available as parking lots for people with disabilities. These are Shijo-dori Parking Lot (to the west of the sanctuary; Google Map link) and the eastern portion of South 1 Parking Lot. (Please note: the Shijo-dori Parking Lot is opened when the regular reserved lot for the disabled is full.)

Please note: Parking spaces in these lots are limited in number. First priority for parking will be reserved for those cars carrying a “chusha kinshi jyogai hyosho” (a placard issued by Japanese government indicating exemption to park in prescribed areas) and driven by the person with the disability.

For people with disabilities accompanied by others, please use the regular parking lots. (On the 26th of each month, free rental use of wheelchairs is available from locations close to most parking lots. See below.)

Free Use of Wheelchairs

There are two types of wheelchairs available for use: indoor wheelchairs and outdoor wheelchairs. 

--Indoor Wheelchairs--

Indoor wheelchairs are available for use during your visit inside the Main Sanctuary, Foundress' Sanctuary, and the Memorial Hall. Wheelchairs are located in the vicinity of the accessible elevators leading up from the ground floor, located on the east and west ends of the corridors (please see map for locations). 

You are asked to leave your outdoor wheelchairs behind, near the elevators, while using the indoor wheelchairs. 

--Outdoor Wheelchairs--

Wheelchairs for use during the day of your visit to the Church Headquarters are available at the following locations.

If you require a wheelchair for more than one day during your pilgrimage trip to Jiba, you could borrow a wheelchair for free from the Social Welfare Section office. You will need to fill out a designated application form (click here to download the form) and have it stamped by the head of your followers dormitory (tsumesho).
